RL Valley Ranch Farm

The ranch was purchased in 1926 by the Frank Koehler Family and was called Valley View Stock Farm. The Frank Koehler Family raised cattle, sheep and pigs. All calves were fattened at the farm and driven to Guysville where they were sold and loaded onto railcars. Sheep played a large role in keeping the landscape neat and free of brush; of course the wool was also sold.

Franks sons, Wayne (Rob’s grandfather) and Nial Koehler operated the farm thru the 1970’s. An abandoned township roads runs thru the Farm, along this road; A one room school house still stands (last attendance about 1915), During the 1940’s and 1950’s, a Limestone Quarry was operated along this road, house foundations and hand dug sandstone lined water wells are still dotted along this road. It is quite a sight in the spring to see all the Easter flowers marking the home foundations! Apple trees still bear fruit from long ago orchards.

The 1980’s and 1990’s and thru the turn of the century Rob’s parents operated the Farm.

All of the original cattle barns are Post and Pin, dating to the late 1850’s.

Anderson Farms

Anderson Farms started on the south side of Granville Ohio in 2014 by James and Jess Anderson with a mission to raise the best tasting pork possible in the climate and conditions provided in central Ohio. We have worked tirelessly to find the best old line breeds that produce the best flavor profile in our pork. We are raising our hogs like they did in the 1950s before massive pork producers started modifying the genetics to take all the flavor out, speed up growth rates and increase muscle mass to yield the meat we know as commercial pork now-a-days. We focus our attention on the opposite methods, we take our time with the growth cycle, we don’t rush it and we’re not scared of fat cuz fat is flavor. Our bloodlines haven't been touched by modern day genetics, we focus only on really old blood lines. We select slow growing breeds that do well out in the open air and the slow growth method really helps our flavor develop all the way to the bone.

For years we have raised hogs exclusively for RayRays Hog Pit, but starting in the spring of 2023, we are prepared to sell half hogs, whole hogs and pork cuts directly to consumers. All of our heritage breed hogs are raised outside in the open air, free roaming in fields separated into 2 sections. Section one is our standard hogs that have a diet rich with grain and all the good stuff in the fields. Section two is our hippy hogs which are non-gmo with a grain free diet including the good stuff in the fields plus a proprietary feed blend as a daily supplement ration.

Pat Brown joined our team in 2020 as farm manager and with his expertise we have been able to fine tune our genetics to produce the richest, most flavorful pork we have ever been able to produce since we started.

Elysian Lamb Farm

Elysian Fields has created a model for raising lamb founded on a respect for nature and the nature of the lamb itself. The seven family farms of Elysian Fields believe that lamb raised according to its nature results in better lamb. Their patented system, Safe Alternative®, is reflected in their philosophy of the “Holistic Lamb®,” which demands observation of the animals, data collection regarding their feeding and their growth.

Elysian Fields believes raising lamb involves respectful stewardship of the animal throughout the entirety of the life cycle and its product form. No part of the process is neglected because the eventual sum of every detail is represented in a product form at your table. Not unlike a highly detailed, even complicated recipe, that a skilled chef would prepare–it is more than just time and temperature or any single ingredient, but rather how all of these” details” come together to create something magnificent and unique. So it is not just about genetic make-up or “breed”, or water quality, pure feed, stewardship expression, sustainability or animal compassion, but rather all of these details and more. That system collectively makes our statement of Holistic Lamb®, represented by the brand name, Pure Bred.
